An ignition interlock system, referred to as Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) is a breath alcohol analyzer with computer logic and internal memory that interconnects with the ignition and other control systems of a motor vehicle. The purpose of the BAIID is to measure the bodily alcohol concentration (BAC) of an intended driver and to prevent the motor vehicle from being started if the BAC exceeds the .025. The offender can only drive in a vehicle with an ignition interlock device installed. The device will ask for random retests while driving. The following are Reportable Events that may lead to a violation and action by the Secretary of State: non-negated positive alcohol reading, missed or failed random rolling retest, or tampering. These test violations will result in further extensions of the one year period or the reinstatement of the original order of revocation/denial.

ADS Determinator Users Guide

Start Up:

  1. Turn key to auxiliary position at which time voice prompt will say: "Please Wait".
  2. After Warm up, it will say "Please Provide a Sample".
    How to provide a sample:
    1. Take a deep breath and blow a short but steady stream of air into the mouthpiece until hearing a beep.
    2. Then Suck In, providing a short but steady intake of air, until hearing the same beep.
  3. Then blow steadily again until the continuous tone stops, after about 6 to 8 seconds, and digital readout bar fills the screen.
  4. You will now hear "You May Start the Vehicle".

Other Start Up Voice Prompts:

  1. If a positive sample is detected you will hear "Vehicle Starting is Disabled". You may retry within 3 minutes.
  2. If you hear "Invalid Sample, Please Wait" retry sample again - you may immediately try the sample again. It could just mean you didn't provide a long enough sample or didn't wait for the unit to warm up.

Rolling Retests:

  1. While driving the vehicle, you will be asked to provide random "rolling retests". You provide these samples just like the original start up.
  2. It is recommended that you pull over to the side of the road if possible or move into a safe lane.
  3. You should hear after providing the sample "Rolling Retest Passed, Thank You".
  4. If you hear "Pull Over and Stop the Vehicle" it means no sample was provided or it was not a good sample.
  5. If after three tries or 5 minutes a good sample is not given, an alarm will sound and increase in intensity until vehicle is turned off. The horn may also sound.

Servicing:

  1. If your vehicle is "Disabled" or "Locked Out" you can call 888-STOP DUI to receive a 5-digit lockout code. If calling after hours, please leave your name , contact information and unit serial number that is located on the reverse side of your hand held unit. The technician on call will call you back.
  2. Please do not call on Saturday or Sunday or a holiday, as the code only provides a 24-hour window to bring your vehicle in to the center for service, and our service centers will not be able to accommodate you until Monday or the 1st business day after a holiday.
  3. For reinforcement on how to use the ADS Determinator, view our training video.

IF USED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE GIVING SAMPLE THE FOLLOWING CHEMICALS MAY PRODUCE A POSITIVE READING:
Toiletries containing alcohol, Breath products containing alcohol, Cleaning products or gasoline within the immediate area of the handset, Some foods that are still present in mouth at time of sample, medicines containing alcohol.
To avoid unnecessary resets please avoid use of these products when giving a sample.
This is your responsibility.
